Now that you’ve gotten the applications in, it’s time to focus on attracting those acceptances. How do you get prospective students to choose your institution? What makes your school more enticing than the other schools that have sent them acceptance letters?

Social Media Marketing For Higher Education

As we all know, social media is powerful in today’s world. Students go to social media to talk to their friends, get updates about the people in their lives, and even find their news. That’s why your social media accounts need to be:

  • Active - Most social media users will not actively seek out your account. The best way for your school to be found is by posting consistently on your social media platforms - that way, the algorithm will bring you to prospective students’ "For You" pages, and all you’ll have to do is post!

  • Attractive - A social media post should be engaging and eye-catching! Use bright but complementary colours and illustrations that match the tone of your messaging and show your audience what your school is all about!

  • Accessible - Always include captions in video posts or a description of the picture in the caption! That way, your posts are inclusive of all possible students.

But it’s not just about how often you post or what those posts look like; it’s also about what you post.

While we could talk about the best statistics to showcase or what time of day you should update your Twitter status, the reality is students are looking for relatability and accessibility. If you focus too much on making your school look good from a numbers standpoint, you won’t reach your entire potential audience simply because some students want to be shown that they won’t be a number at your institution.

There are many great ways to get students’ attention while being relatable. Three of our favourites are:


  • Do a Giveaway - What better way to get prospective students into your school’s spirit than to get them into your school’s merch! Sweaters, mugs, notebooks, t-shirts - you can raffle off any of these items on your social media pages to get students excited about being a part of your school.

  • Host Live Q&A Sessions - Get. Students. Involved! Hosting live Q&A sessions through your school’s Instagram or TikTok allows you to answer questions on a public platform that lets prospective students interact with you. That way, they can ask the questions they feel are most important to them without waiting for a reply to an email or an in-person information session.

  • Make Jokes - Don’t be so serious! Yes, you want your school to look professional and crisp - but that’s what your website is for. Social media is a place to show off your personality, so make some jokes! Show students that your institution creates an environment where they can thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.

Email Marketing For Higher Education

Email is one of the easiest ways to remind prospective students about your institution! Two of our top tips for higher education email marketing include:

  • It’s All In The Subject Line - Chances are, if your subject line doesn’t catch a reader’s attention, they won’t open the email. Use emojis, bold letters, capitals, and anything else you think will make your email stand out - you want your email’s subject line to make students click!

  • Include Pictures and Videos Wherever Possible - No one wants to scroll through an email entirely made up of long paragraphs. Give prospective students pictures of your campus or video testimonials from your currently enrolled students. Show them what it’s like to be a part of your institution. This will attract more clicks and more acceptances!
